Digging in Deeper: Hosea 7:2

“But they never consider that I remember all their evil. Now their actions are all around them; they are right in front of my face.” (CSB – Read the chapter)

Do you know what is some good advice: Don’t offend someone with a long memory. Generally speaking, we have a fairly remarkable ability to remember bad or hurtful things that have happened to us. Even a small slight can stick with us for a long time. If we’re not careful, it can become the lens through which we see not only the person who offended us, but everyone with whom we come into contact. Now, when we’re dealing with a person this isn’t good, but it’s not such a terrible deal. When it comes to God, the idea that this kind of thing might even possibly happen is a great deal more uncomfortable of a thought.

Morning Musing: Hosea 6:6

“For I desire faithful love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.”‬‬ (CSB – Read the chapter

What does God want? Do you ever find yourself asking that question? Sometimes it’s a question. Sometimes it can be more of an accusation. We feel like we’re constantly running around trying to please Him and never quite managing to hit that mark. It can be pretty discouraging to feel that way for long. Digging in Deeper: Proverbs 8:13

“To fear the Lord is to hate evil. I hate arrogant pride, evil conduct, and perverse speech.” (CSB – Read the chapter

God is love. That’s what John told us. That’s not some kind of an interpretive spin on what he said either. It’s a direct quote: God IS love. It’s the essence of His being. It defines more surely than almost anything else (with the exception of justice and holiness which together form the core triad of His character) who He is. Jesus told us that we are to be known by love if we are to be known as His followers. If that’s the case, then we shouldn’t hate anything, right? So what’s going on here?

Digging in Deeper: James 4:17

“So it is sin to know the good and yet not do it.”‬‬ (CSB – Read the chapter

Sin is about doing, right? We commit sins. Or, to put that more generically, we do things we shouldn’t do. Different worldview and religious traditions may define the concept differently in terms of its specifics—unless they deny the concept entirely—but every worldview has some kind of a concept of wrongdoing. But what if doing wasn’t all there was…
